March 3 – Mark 6:34

Posted by Jan Ross

"And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things." (Mark 6:34)

What a beautifully tender description of our Lord! He "was moved with compassion."

You can feel His heart in these words, as if He wanted to scoop up all the precious souls in His arms and carry them away to safety. But, He chose to do something even better . . . He began to teach them.

The life-giving Words bursting forth from His lips gave the people hope, direction, comfort, and guidance. His Word . . . no better way to care for His flock.

Today, follow Him to the secret place of sweet communion where He will teach you through His Word, so full, so rich, and so free! It costs nothing except a small investment of time; the rewards, however, are priceless!

Savior, like a Shepherd lead us,
Much we need Thy tender care.
In Thy pleasant pastures feed us,
For our use Thy folds prepare.
We are Thine, do Thou befriend us,
Be the Guardian of our way;
Keep Thy flock, from sin defend us,
Seek us when we go astray!
Blessed Jesus, Blessed Jesus,
Thou has bought us, Thine we are!*

Shepherd, lead me by Your Word. Draw me into sweet communion with you where I will be taught of You and learn from You. Savior, like a Shepherd lead me, be the Guardian of my way. Keep me, Lord, and defend me and draw me close when I go astray. You have bought me with Your precious blood, Lord, and I am Yours! Amen and Amen.

"I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep." (John 10:11)
